Local resident Jane Jenkins was arrested for suspected driving under the influence after the 53-year-old struck a girl who was walking to her bus stop.

Deputies from the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office were called at around 7:20 a.m. on Nov. 6 to the 7200 block of Plantation Forest Drive, where there was a report of a driver who struck a minor in the area.

The department's Traffic Reconstruction Unit determined that a black Jeep Renegade driven by Jenkins was heading south on Plantation Drive and crossed the center of the roadway, striking the girl who was walking on the gravel on the opposite side of the roadway.

After being struck, the juvenile was taken to an area hospital for treatment and evaluation, and was later released with minor injuries.

Jenkins was taken to the Rappahannock Regional Jail, where she was held on a $2,500 secured bond until sober.
